A thousand words to understand a picture

Hans Durrer's Framing the World is not a book on photography, nor does it contain photographs. Rather, it deals with questions that are rarely asked in texts that deal with photography and the media: Does a picture really tell more than a thousand words or is it the other way around – that we need a thousand words to understand a picture? Is it true that seeing is believing, or do we simply see what we happen to believe? Are we condemned to see the world in a culturally conditioned way? These and other such questions are posed and answered in the author's quiet and penetrating observations.
